The university has excellent facilities for anyone cycling to work, including those who have their own bicycles and park them in one of our 3,000 bicycle racks, or those who opt for a city bike.
You will find bike racks everywhere at the UiO. At Blindern alone we are able to accommodate almost 2,000 bikes and you will find bike racks outside every entrance.
Make sure you do not park your bicycle in a way that blocks footpaths and entrances, or gets in the way of general traffic. Bicycles are parked at your own risk, both indoors and outside. Please be considerate to pedestrians when cycling on the footpaths. In places where there are a lot of pedestrians, we advise you to push your bike.
Locked and covered bicycle parking
You will find locked bicycle parking under cover in several locations on campus. Please note that long-term bicycle parking, such as through the winter months, is not permitted. The Estate Department is currently working to facilitate for more locked and covered bicycle parking.
Blindern
Locked parking facilities behind Eilert Sundts hus A, by the entrance in Moltke Moes vei. Access for students and employees with a key card.
Locked parking facilities in "?konomig?rden" between Fysikkbygningen and Kjemibygningen. Access for students and employees with a key card.
Gaustad
In Ole Johan Dahls hus, there is a dedicated entrance to the garage for pedestrians and cyclists. Students have access to the bike room during regular opening hours.
Geitmyrsveien
At the Faculty of Dentistry, it is possible to park your bike in the garage. Accessible by key card.
Sentrum
At Domus Juridica, students and employees can park their bikes in the basement. Access through goods lift in the office entrance.
Secure bicycle parking pilot
The University of Oslo is testing new solutions for secure bicycle parking on campus and has installed a total of 40 secure bike lockers at Blindern. Now we need your feedback!
Motorbikes and mopeds
UiO encourages the parking of mopeds and motorbikes in designated parking spots. There are 12 such designated spots available between Fysikkbygningen and Helga Engs hus. Parking is not permitted on the grass.
Bicycle washing machine
The bicycle washing machine at Blindern is currently unavailable, but will be open for use again during the 2024 autumn semester.
At Campus Downtown, you will find a bicycle washing machine in the basement of Domus Juridica, as well as a hose to do simple bike cleaning further in.
Service point
You will also find a bicycle service point on Studenttorget in front of Helga Engs hus, which has two bicycle tools on a retractable wire. Here you can pump up tires and make minor repairs to your bike.
In Domus Juridica, students and employees with access to the building are able to do simple bike maintenance in the basement.
City bikes
Oslo Bysykkel is available at many spots at the University of Oslo.
Incorrectly parked bikes
Bikes and scooters are not permitted inside the buildings. This rule is in place to ensure free evacuation routes, maintain cleanliness and general accessibility. Abandoned and damaged bikes will also be removed.
These bikes will be relocated to the nearest bicycle parking area with their respective locks or handed over to Landscape Services, who will store them for three months. Please contact the Estate Department if you have any questions.
