Museum building temporarily closed

The Estate Department at the University of Oslo in agreement with the Natural History Museum has decided to close Robert Collett's house for visitors, effective from Thursday December 9 2021 to March 1 2022. The Botanical Garden, Climate House, Museum Shop and other facilities will keep open for the public as usual.

The building is being closed due to the need for extra fire safety measures in the magazines where the museum collections are being stored and a new monitoring system will be installed.

– We regret this on behalf of our visitors. However, we found it best to carry out the necessary changes now in a time of the year where the museum has fewer visitors, says John Skogen, director of the Estate Department.

Risk analyses and measures that pertain to the safety of employees, visitors and the inventory of the building have previously been carried out. The new measures prevent visitors from being present in the building. The monitoring system installation is scheduled for completion by March 1 2022.
