Checklist: Universal design of web content

UiO's website must be universally designed and accessible to all users. To manage this, we want you to use the universal designs' rules of thumb every time you publish content online.

1. Write in a clear language Image may contain: Font, Rectangle, Material property, Parallel, Screenshot.

Write short and concise. Use intermediate titles so the user can scan the content.

2. Use headlines consecutively Image may contain: Green, Azure, Rectangle, Aqua, Font.

H2, H3 H2. H3 and H4 come one after the other. Even if it does not give the visual impression you wanted, do not jump straight from H2 in the mail title to H4 in the subtitle.

3. Use descriptive links Image may contain: Font, Rectangle, Brand, Magenta.

Do not just write "Read more here" - tell the user what they can read more about, eg: "Read more about scholarships and loans". And if you are sending the user to another website outside UiO, it must be informed in parentheses, eg: ?Read more about scholarships and loans (L?nekassen).

4. Do not write "content on the left" Image may contain: Rectangle, Orange, Font, Parallel, Signage.

Visual placement should never be used to refer to related content. Instead, use links to guide the user further.

5. Create the table in Vortex, do not use pictures of tables Image may contain: Rectangle, Font, Parallel, Pattern, Electric blue.

Table should only be used for content to be presented in tables. Use row and column headings. Do not use tables to control the design of the content.

6. Use only black text Image may contain: Head, Hand, Eye, Facial expression, Vertebrate.

Black text on white background ensures good readability and that everyone sees what is written. Colors should not be used to highlight or emphasize content , so for example do not use red for negative / not finished, or green for positive / finished.

7. Pictures and illustrations mustImage may contain: Rectangle, Font, Circle, Slope, Grass. have alternative text

Check the alternative text (alt-tekst) that Vortex provides for you and change if you think it is not good enough.

8. Videos should always be subtitledImage may contain: Font, Circle, Magenta, Logo, Symbol.

All videos must be subtitled, regardless of whether they are to be online, in canvas or in other teaching aids.

9. Set the correct language Image may contain: Handwriting, Purple, Human body, Violet, Font.
for the content

Check the "About" tab to make sure that the content is set with the correct language.

10. Use the rules also when
creating documentsImage may contain: Rectangle, Organism, Font, Material property, Circle.

In the same way as websites, all documents uploaded to Vortex must be universally designed.
