Fakultetet utarbeider hvert ?r en ?rsrapport som gj?r opp status for ?ret som gikk og som inneholder tall som gj?r det mulig ? f?lge v?r egen utvikling over tid. Rapporten legges frem for fakultetsstyret til orientering. Dessuten diskuterer fakultetsledelsen noen av resultatene med instituttene og sentrene p? det ?rlige T?yenm?tet. Men jeg vil bli overrasket om fakultetets ?rsrapport blir mye lest av v?re ansatte. Derfor gjengir jeg her noen av h?ydepunktene fra ?rsrapporten for 2022. Her er nemlig veldig mye ? glede seg over og v?re stolte av n? ved inngangen til en vel fortjent sommerferie.
Fakultetets viktigste oppgaver er ? videreutvikle, forvalte og formidle samfunnsvitenskapelig kunnskap gjennom forskning og utdanning og ved ? legge til rette for at kunnskapen tas i bruk. Overordnet viser ?rsrapporten for 2022 viser at fakultetet er i god form. V?r s?rlig styrke er nysgjerrighetsdrevet og forskerinitiert forskning med solid disiplin?r forankring av h?y kvalitet innenfor bredden av samfunnsvitenskapelige disipliner og forskningsbasert undervisning som bygger p? denne forskningen. Fakultetets ansatte hevder seg meget godt i konkurransen om attraktive konkurranseutsatte forskningsmidler med f? f?ringer p? valg av tema og problemstillinger. Fakultetet har vokst betydelig de siste ?rene, og eksternt finansierte forskningsprosjekter har v?rt en viktig driver for i denne veksten.
Ulike akademiske rangeringer m?ler litt ulike ting, og det er ikke gitt at en skal legge avgj?rende vekt p? slike rangeringer som uttrykk for akademisk kvalitet. Likevel er det verdt ? nevne at flere av v?re disipliner gj?r det s? godt at de har oppn?dd en individuell plassering i noen av disse rangeringene. I Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects er statsvitenskap ranger som nummer 36, ?konomi som nummer 37 og sosiologi som nummer 45 i verden. I QS World University Ranking er sosialantropologi rangert som nummer 44 og sosiologi som nummer 45 i verden. Dette er sv?rt imponerende plasseringer fra v?re fagmilj?er, og vi gleder oss over disse flotte resultatene.
Fakultetet har de senere ?rene satset s?rlig tungt p? ERC-stipender, og vi fikk hele seks nye tildelinger i l?pet av 2022. Fire av disse startet opp i 2022, og ved utgangen av 2022 hadde fakultetet hele 14 aktive ERC-prosjekter. Vi har ogs? blitt partnere i to Marie Sklodowska-Curie doktorgradsnettverk, og to kandidater har f?tt individuelle prosjekter. Fakultetet har ogs? lykkes godt med de f?rste tematiske utlysningene i Horisont Europa, og vi er med som partner i fire tematiske prosjekter som ble innvilget i 2022. Vi har ogs? lykkes meget godt med s?knader til Tematiske utlysninger og Banebrytende forskning (FRIPRO) i Norges forskningsr?d: Hele ?tte av UiOs i alt 33 innvilgede prosjekter fra disse utlysningene h?rer til eller kan knyttes til v?rt fakultet. Vi har ogs? f?tt tilslag p? to tverrfaglige forskerprosjekter (under fellesl?ftet), et nytt skattesenter og et stort 中国竞猜网_中国足彩网-足球推荐sprosjekt om hatkriminalitet.
Av h?ydepunkter fra utdanningsvirksomheten v?r er det naturlig ? nevne at EILIN, fakultetets senter for fagn?r pedagogikk, hadde sitt f?rste ?r med full drift i 2022. For mange ansatte er EILIN f?rst og fremst den enheten som tilbyr teknisk bistand til v?re undervisere. Men i tillegg har EILIN etablert et nettverk for l?ringskontakter p? grunnenhetene, tildeler ressurser i form av s?kornsmidler, vitenskapelige assistenter og studentassistenter og gir ellers blant annet kurs spesielt rettet mot PhDer og postdoktorer som underviser. Fakultetet ble i 2022 ogs? for f?rste gang involvert i et Senter for fremragende utdanning (SFU). Dette senteret heter Center for Interdisciplinary Education (CIE), og det er et 中国竞猜网_中国足彩网-足球推荐 mellom Det matematisk naturvitenskapelige fakultet, Det humanistiske fakultet og oss. SFUen er knyttet til Honoursprogrammet, men vil helt sikkert ogs? f? betydning for fakultetets ?vrige tverrfaglige studieprogrammer. Fakultetet har ogs? f?tt et nytt studieprogram, nemlig BA-programmet ?konomi og datavitenskap. Programmet har blitt til gjennom et 中国竞猜网_中国足彩网-足球推荐 mellom ?I og Institutt for informatikk. Ikke uventet har kombinasjonen av ?konomi og datavitenskap vekket interesse blant s?kerne, og det nye programmet var UiOs fjerde mest popul?re studieprogram blant v?rens s?kere, m?lt som forholdet mellom antall s?kere og antall tilgjengelige studieplasser. Studieprogrammet Utviklingsstudier har f?tt en tydeligere klima, milj? og b?rekraftsprofil og skiftet navn til Utvikling og b?rekraft. Andre nyheter p? utdanningssiden er den nye 40-gruppen i Datavitenskap for samfunnsvitere. Forskerutdanningen kan ogs? vise til en fin utvikling: Mens vi i 2021 hadde kun 44 disputaser og mange sluttet p? doktorgradsprogrammet uten ? fullf?re, steg antallet disputaser til 59 i 2022. Dette er blant de h?yeste disputastallene vi har hatt de siste fem ?rene. Sist, men p? ingen m?te minst, har fakultetet, i tett 中国竞猜网_中国足彩网-足球推荐 med Karrieresenteret, etablert Norges f?rste integrerte karriereveiledningsopplegg for b?de BA og MA-studenter i Finn din Fremtid. Her tilbys ett emne per semester, og hensikten med opplegget er at studentene v?re skal ?ke sin bevissthet og hva de kan og hva de trives med og derigjennom legge et godt grunnlag for gode valg for tiden etter studiene.
Sv?rt mange ansatte bruker mye tid p? formidling og kunnskap i bruk. Listen over fakultetets ansatte som er medlemmer av r?d, utvalg, styrer og lignende er lang. Det er ogs? listen over st?rre forskningsarrangementer. Eilert Sundt-forelesningen ble gjennomf?rt etter to ?rs midlertidig pandemistans. De fremm?tte fikk h?re en s?rs interessant forelesning om russisk n?romr?depolitikk og geopolitiske holdninger i befolkningen i Russlands n?re omgivelser. Fakultetets ansatte har ogs? bidratt til ? fylle den noks? nyetablerte UiO-arenaen for debatt og dialog, Domus Biblioteca, med faglig innhold.
Tusen takk til alle dere ansatte som p? ulike m?ter bidrar til den faglige virksomheten ved fakultetet. Det er deres innsats som gjenspeiles i fakultetets gode resultater. Jeg ?nsker dere alle en riktig god sommer og vel m?tt igjen i august.
Editorial: A faculty in good shape
Dean Anne Julie Semb gives highlights from the Annual Report in this months editorial.
The faculty prepares an annual report each year that provides an overview of the past year and contains figures that allow us to track our own development over time. The report is presented to the faculty board for information. Additionally, the faculty management discusses some of the results with the institutes and centers at the annual T?yen meeting. However, I would be surprised if the faculty's annual report is widely read by our employees. Therefore, I will present some of the highlights from the 2022 annual report here. There is a lot to be excited about and proud of as we enter a well-deserved summer vacation.
The faculty's main tasks are to further develop, manage, and disseminate social science knowledge through research and education and by facilitating the use of this knowledge. Overall, the 2022 annual report shows that the faculty is in good shape. Our particular strength lies in curiosity-driven and researcher-initiated research with a solid disciplinary foundation of high quality within the breadth of social science disciplines, as well as research-based teaching based on this research. The faculty's staff performs very well in the competition for attractive competitive research funding with few restrictions on the choice of topics and research questions. The faculty has grown significantly in recent years, and externally funded research projects have been a key driver of this growth.
Different academic rankings measure slightly different things, and it is not certain that one should attach decisive importance to such rankings as expressions of academic quality. However, it is worth mentioning that several of our disciplines perform so well that they have achieved individual rankings in some of these rankings. In the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, political science is ranked 36th, economics is ranked 37th, and sociology is ranked 45th in the world. In the QS World University Ranking, social anthropology is ranked 44th and sociology is ranked 45th in the world. These are very impressive rankings from our academic communities, and we are delighted with these excellent results.
In recent years, the faculty has made a particularly strong commitment to ERC grants, and we received a total of six new awards in 2022. Four of these started in 2022, and by the end of 2022, the faculty had a total of 14 active ERC projects. We have also become partners in two Marie Sk?odowska-Curie doctoral networks, and two candidates have received individual projects. The faculty has also been very successful in the first thematic calls in Horizon Europe, and we are involved as partners in four thematic projects that were approved in 2022. We have also been very successful in applications for Thematic Calls and Frontier Research (FRIPRO) in the Research Council of Norway: Eight out of UiO's total of 33 approved projects from these calls belong to or can be associated with our faculty. We have also received approval for two interdisciplinary research projects (under the joint initiative), a new tax center, and a major collaborative project on hate crime.
Among the highlights of our educational activities, it is natural to mention that EILIN, the faculty's center for subject-specific pedagogy, had its first year of full operation in 2022. For many employees, EILIN is primarily the unit that provides technical assistance to our teachers. However, in addition, EILIN has established a network for learning contacts at the basic units, allocates resources in the form of seed funding, scientific assistants, and student assistants, and offers courses specifically aimed at PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers who teach. In 2022, the faculty was also involved for the first time in a Center for Excellence in Education (SFU). This center is called the Center for Interdisciplinary Education (CIE), and it is a collaboration between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities, and us. The SFU is associated with the Honours Program but will certainly also have an impact on the faculty's other interdisciplinary study programs. The faculty has also introduced a new study program, namely the BA program in Economics and Data Science. The program has been developed through a collaboration between ?I and the Department of Informatics. As expected, the combination of economics and data science has attracted interest among applicants, and the new program was the fourth most popular study program at UiO among spring applicants, measured by the ratio of applicants to available study places. The Development Studies program has adopted a clearer climate, environmental, and sustainability profile and has been renamed Development and Sustainability. Other news in education includes the establishment of a new 40-group in Data Science for Social Sciences. The doctoral education has also shown positive development: While we had only 44 dissertations in 2021 and many discontinued the doctoral program without completion, the number of dissertations increased to 59 in 2022. These are among the highest dissertation numbers we have had in the past five years. Last but not least, the faculty, in close collaboration with the Career Center, has established Norway's first integrated career guidance program for both BA and MA students called 'Find Your Future.' One course per semester is offered, and the purpose of the program is for our students to increase their awareness of their abilities and what they enjoy, thus laying a solid foundation for making good choices for their future after their studies.
Many employees invest significant time in dissemination and the application of knowledge. The list of faculty employees who are members of councils, committees, boards, and similar bodies is long. The same applies to the list of major research events. The Eilert Sundt Lecture was held after a two-year temporary pandemic break. The attendees were treated to a highly interesting lecture on Russian regional politics and geopolitical attitudes among the populations in Russia's neighboring areas. The faculty's employees have also contributed to filling the relatively newly established UiO arena for debate and dialogue, Domus Bibliotheca, with academic content.
Thank you very much to all of you employees who contribute to the academic activities at the faculty in various ways. It is your efforts that are reflected in the faculty's good results. I wish you all a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you again in August.
