JUR1520 – International Environmental Law and Sustainability

Course content

Sustainable development is the red thread throughout this course. The course builds on the principle of sustainable development and analyses how it is reflected in main international treaties on the protection of the environment. Central questions on legal methodology, legal sources, and environmental principles will be addressed. The course will introduce more specific areas in international environmental law, such as those addressing the conservation of biological diversity, protection of the marine environment, reduction of plastic pollution and addressing climate change. In addition, "overarching" topics include the relationship between environmental protection and human rights, and international trade and investment law.

Language of teaching for this course is English. This means that all?communication during lectures/seminars will be in English, and all?literature and materials are in English.

Examination

Students are graded on the basis of a 24 hour written home exam.

Maximum length for written home exam on master’s level is 2000 words on bachelor's level. Front page, contents page (optional) and bibliography are not included. If footnotes are used in the text (at the bottom of each page), they are included in the 2000 word limit.?

Papers that exceed the the 2000 word limit will be rejected, and not sent to grading.
