Week 13: April 14-April 21

Interactive session, Thursday April 21

Weekly lecture:

This week we have a guest lecture from Frank Veenstra from the ROBIN research group on biologically inspired AI methods - more specifically, methods inspired by developmental systems and swarms. There are no required readings this week beyond the slides, but some optional readings are suggested below.

Slides Part 1: Development

Slides Part 2: Swarms

Slides Interactive Session

Videos:

Part 1: Developmental Biology Introduction

Part 2: Morphogens

Part 3: Rewrite Systems

Part 4: CPPNs and Curves

Part 5: Swarms, Particle Swarm Optimization

Part 6: Ant Colony Optimization and Reconfigurable Robots

Optional Reading

The book Bio-Inspired Artificial Intelligence gives perhaps the best overview of these topics. Chapter 4 is about developmental systems, and Chapter 7 is on collective (swarm) systems.
