In today's lecture: I derived the transport equations for a class of traffic flow problems. I introduced the method of characteristics and solved some examples of transport equations with this method.

In the next lecture: I will complete the method of characteristics for transport equations with source and sink terms. I will derive the Heat equation and Laplace's equation and study some basic properties of the Laplace equation.

For the group lesson this friday: Ulrik will cover some numerical methods for ODEs and project 1.3. Prepare exercises 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7. He will cover some of it.

Photocopies of the first chapter of the textbook can be collected from my office.

In today's lecture: I gave a general overview of the course and its contents. I also introduced ODEs, stability of solutions of ODEs and the Forward Euler method to solve ODEs.

In the next lecture: I will solve the linear transport equation by the method of characteristics.

For the tutorial this friday: Prepare exercises 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.15 and Project 1.3 from the textbook.
