Composing a new email
There are three ways to open a new message window:
- Press cmd-N (?-N) in Mail.
- Choose File → New Message i Mail.
- Press the button Compose new message on the Mail toolbar.
1. To who do you want to send an e-mail?
Enter the desired address(es) in the To: and Cc: fields.
Note! When you enter a name or email address in the To: or Cc: fields, Apple Mail will automatically look up your address book in Contacts and UiO's Global Address List (GAL), enabling automatic completion of the email address. GAL (Found on Servers) contains all the names, email addresses of everyone at UiO, as well as room information.
Global Address List (GAL) contains all the names and email addresses of everyone at the University.
2. Add attachment
Apple Mail distinguishes between two ways of adding Attachments:
- Click the paperclip button in the toolbar to open the Choose File window. Highlight the attachment, and then click Choose File to attach. You may want to make sure that Send Windows Friendly Attachments is enabled under Options.
- If you want to attach a photo from Photos, click the button Show or hide the photo browser. The images appear in the same way you've organized your images in Photos.
You can also drag and drop images, movies, sound files, PDF files, etc. right into your outgoing email message.
3. Reply, Reply All and Forward
You can respond to an email in two ways: respond to whoever wrote the email or reply to all the recipients of the email. You can also forward an e-mail if you think that others will be interested in it or to delegate a task:
4. Send your email
When you've finished composing your email message, click the Send button or press Shift-Command-D (? - ?-D).
